We would hope that the majority of people would agree that discrimination and bigotry is an anathema that should not exist.
Judging people for things they have no control over is mindless, no-one can choose their skin colour, their nationality, their ethnicity, their gender or their sexual preferences, these are inmate at birth that cannot be chosen forst, thus to hold these up as a reason to discriminate against person is simply irrational and illogical.
It is our firm belief that a person should only be judged on how they behave once they are old enough to understand the consequences of their actions, words or related behaviour. How they choose to treat others and you is all that matters, people of all ethnic origins, genders, sexual preferences, nationalities or any other “difference” are as likely to be a good, bad, indifferent, law abiding, criminal, honest, dishonest or any other human fallability as any other group of humans one can create, whether real or perceived.
Discrimination comes from fear and lack of understanding. Many people fear that which they do not understand, it is an extension of the natural “fight or flight” responce that kept our ancestors from being eaten by predators or injured by animals they hunted, this is made worse within modern human societies by, primarilly, but not only, the Abrahamic faiths, Jeudaism, Christianity and Islam, all three teach intolerance of those who do not share their faith, they all have “secrets”, often religious ceremonies that outsiders are barred from, this creates a lack of understanding and intolerance. It would be unfair to say that all proponents of these religions think like this, but there are very influencial people within all these three main religious groups that do, and that is not tolerable.
We believe the UK should continue it’s path of secularism, but that does not mean people should be free to discriminate against a person, we also, as a society, need to accept that those who do discriminate exist in all groups, no matter skin tone, gender, sexuality, nationality, religion etc etc – humans can often find it easier to discriminate than to accept.
We strongly believe a major tool in ending this abhorent behaviour is education, it must start in schools, but in adult life, those who practice discrimination should be educated about why their views are wrong, why they create harm, why they create mistrust, social division and hate can and does ultimately lead to war. This is not some woke agenda to pacify, but neitehr is it the right wing “through them in jail” solution that does not work – it simply breads more hate, although in the worst cases or repeated failures to educate this would have to remain the finanal sanction society should use to those who refuse to show humanity in how they treat people.
Education is key in all walks of life, with education comes understanding and addressing people’s fears allow them to then also have a better quality of life free of those fears, this is true whether people are scared of heights, spiders, dogs, cats or groups within society they cannot or do not understand, these fears become irrational and are often exploited by others – this is a serious issue that must be addressed – you cannot legislate tolerance, understanding or knowledge, but you can legislate to provide those who have unacceptable behaviour with an education to give them understanding, give them knowledge and then from that, we hope tolerance because their fears have been aswaged.
We are, imperfect creatures, we are fallable and serious flawed in many ways we behave, even the most law abiding in society makes mistakes, w2ith a few exceptions, should we ruine their entire life because they are human?
